By Karen Ross, Cornwall Gleaning coordinator
We are delighted to have received an award in the Circular Economy category at the prestigious ceremony held at the Royal Cornwall Museum
The helping hands of our gleaning and distribution volunteers are the lifeblood of the Gleaning Network. Together we have saved 230 tonnes of veg because we believe no good food should go to waste.
And in the latest Cornwall Sustainability Awards the hard work and positive impact were recognised.
The CSA website states :”The awards seek to encourage, reward and recognise sustainable Cornish businesses. They have been running since 2002 when they were launched by Sir Jonathon Porritt. Having consistently grown year on year, CSA has become Cornwall’s leading initiative for rewarding and celebrating enterprises for their contribution to environmental growth and resource efficiency”
We are thrilled and honoured to have been chosen for an award- thankyou to our volunteer gleaners, drivers, and the behind the scenes team, and to our farmers who have generously given us access to their fields and crops throughout the last three years.
We are determined to carry on bringing farm surplus to hungry people – if you would like to join an award- winning team, currently the largest gleaning network in Europe, then please follow the link on the website. Many hands make light work!
